Meet Debbie Downer's Arch-Nemesis: Ursula Upper

After posting "Debbie Downer", I have felt more optimistic, increasingly upbeat.

I have received an outpouring of understanding and agreement from fellow twenty-somethings and, sadly, camaraderie is a great comfort.

Mark and I have also been mutually supportive since naming the beast of quarter-life crisis. I sing him songs, intentionally out-of-tune and extraordinarily loud. He buys me cheese. We poke each other in the belly buttons. We watch "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia." I make buttons for him. He edits our grocery list for me:

Bottom line? In order to get through this time of crisis, find people that understand. More importantly, find and surround yourself with people that understand how to dig you out of a rut. My cure: empathy and silliness.While these two things may not be your particular brand of solution, it has done the trick for me.

Also, clouds. Clouds make me happy. Thus, my new series of buttons:

Apologies

So Blogosphere, it's been a couple days.

Where have I been?

Not here.

But why?

Here's the list of reasons behind your neglect:

1. The man's birthday. Since I am someone who thinks celebrating birthdays is uber important, we have been meeting friends, having bonfires, sharing drinks, etc. for the last couple days. His birthday is also behind reason #2.

2. Painting Bill Murray. As I explained in my post about my Etsy account, I have begun a ritual of painting one of Mark's idols on a canvas every year and giving it as a present. This year: Bill Murray. And true to Bill Murray and the characters he plays, he is proven to be slightly difficult.

3. Desperately trying to finish my current book, Signora da Vinci by Robin Maxwell, so I can move onto Parker and I's book club book, The Passage.

4. Working. Yep, that's right. I let work get in the way of my blogging. How terrible am I!

5. Life. It has a funny way of interrupting itself.


So hopefully, tonight or tomorrow I will have finished the painting, the book and be home from work, in time for a real post. No promises though.

Chaplin, Wall-E and RFK...OH MY!

So, as some of you may know, I can get quite crafty when it comes to gift-giving. So, when confronted with the ever-daunting task of finding a present for Mark (aka: Baby, Pidge, Hubster, the Man, my love, etc.) I decided one year to do portraits of two of his favorite figures of all time: Charlie Chaplin and Wall-e. This is what came of it:

 Since painting these, Mark has wanted this portrait-creation to be a yearly thing. So, the following year I decided upon two of his favorite great-minds: Robert F. Kennedy and Nikola Tesla. Tesla was and still is nearly impossible to paint because of the low-quality to very few images that exist of him. I have sort of given up on him for a little while, but here is good ole RFK:

So why am I telling you all of this? WELL, I just recently decided that (due to brokedom) that I should try to create these portraits per the request of others that would be willing to pay me for my services. And behold! An Etsy Shop is born! So far, I just have these few items posted and "Personalized Portraits" available for request/purchase, but more is on its way. So if you feel like supporting a friend, or a stranger, feel free to contact me about a portrait that you might want!
